30993 2002-01-13 01:48:00 lol....just trying to read some of the posts in here...I think a good prize would be a grammar/spelling check program. Either that or I need lots more coffee.
Heres a hint for people making posts.
Make it clear and simple
include as much information as you can...if its a software problem include the Operating System you are using and any other programs that may be affecting your system.
Hardware problems then include details on your computer
Try to be as accurate as possible in your description of the error messages that appear.
PLEASE check your post before sending it for spelling mistakes and clarity...
Click on the post button only ONCE....sometimes it takes a while to post it patience is a virtue that is sadly lacking at times
If you get an answer to your post please let us know if it helped or not...that way we can either try again or go on and help someone else...its also called politeness.
Anyone else have anything to add??

30994 2002-01-13 02:31:00 Agree with all of that.

I'd like to add that I'm extremely irritated by posts that say, 'HELP ME!' or 'EMERGENCY!!!'

I think this is an attempt to jump the queue by drawing attention to yourself.

If these people were waiting in line at a shop, would they jump up and down shouting, 'HEY! OVER HERE!'

The regular contributors should form a pact that such posts will be ignored.

Then there are the ones that say 'Big probo' or 'How about this one'.

If you can't be bothered thinking of a succinct and accurate subject title for your post, I can't be bothered thinking of a solution to your problem.

And finally, how the hell are we supposed to find anything in the search when the subject lines are full of garbage like that?

[End of rant]

30995 2002-01-13 06:54:00 Yeah I have one dippy.

Quite a few that I have replied to lately I have done a search using Googgle. Sure this is a great site and wonderful forum to fix your problem however I believe one should increase their internet prowess by doind a quick search of their own before coming here.

Some tips on searching. Dont use just one search engine, there are alot out there: WWW.Google.com, WWW.momma.com, www.askjeeves.com, www.yahoo.com and so on. Use the filenames, error messages, virus names or os' as the words you are searching for. I bet that that someone somewhere (not just here in the forum) has had your problem. Read the search engines notes on advanced searching... alot of people just type in the words and think that that is it !!

I think the reply about the titles is on the button. Make it relevant to the problem.

That is it for now (till I think of some more)..

30996 2002-01-13 07:40:00 Well done dipstick 01. Very well put. The next post about the subject was very relevant as I skim the subject and I don't waste my time on any that don't tell me anything. Some descriptions of what their problems are certainly don't come up to scratch and I usually don't waste my time there either. Guest (0)
30997 2002-01-14 00:59:00 OK Guys

I can run with the initial problem description issue to a certain extent, but I think you are being a bit hardnosed and anti-social on the rest.

Remember this: Not every Poster has English as their first language, not all are adults and many may not have sufficient understanding of their problem to describe it to your high standards.

This is a help forum so if you don't want to help, why not find another that better suits your standards requirements and play there instead?

A more appropriate response would be to post some clear questions and/or directions so that the problemee (new word I just invented myself, like it?) knows what to do to help themselves get help.

Might I also add that some posts offering advice are no more understandable, but at least the person responding is trying to help.

Yes, many answers come from a simple Net search, but was that searching so simple when you were a newbie?

Unless you have some inspirational method of separating out the truly needy from those who are lazy, illiterate, or just in too much of a hurry to check their post before sending, how about sticking with the spirit of Press F1 and suspending judgement while you try to help sort their problem.
