30980	2002-01-13 00:19:00	When I do a defrag, it then ask's to do a scandisk, but I have now found, that at the front of the FAT32 area, I have found in the 3rd one a bad cluster. On the scandisk thorough (Options) Data area only. Then save the data and a new hard drive. ?? Thanks Joe	Guest (0)

30982	2002-01-13 05:54:00	A single bad cluster doesn't mean your hard drive is in trouble. Many, if not all hard drives, have areas on the disk surface that are suspect, most being found during the initial low-level format by the manufacturer. These areas are marked as being unusable so they cause no problems when the operating system is installed. In your case, a single cluster over the whole hard drive is not likely to be a problem, more likey a small fault in the coating on the disk. If you begin to get more frequent bad clusters appearing though, it's a definite sign of imminent drive failure. In that case, yes, get a new drive and bin the old one. But whatever you do, BACK UP YOUR DATA. You can always reinstall your apps, but data lost is gone forever. Hope that helped, Andy.	Guest (0)
