31126 2002-01-14 00:22:00 I use Roxio Easy CD Creator 5 to format CD-RW discs. The discs have a stated capacity of 650MB, but when formatted this drops to 533MB. Where did the 117MB of capacity go? How can I obtain the full 650MB? Guest (0)
31127 2002-01-14 01:32:00 You can't. CD-RW uses UDF packet writing to enable you to add files, delete them, and overwrite file just like a Zip disk or floppy. As a result there needs to be a table of contents, so to speak, that keeps track of all this behaviour, including the splitting of files.

This table of contents has a substantial overhead on a disk as large as 650MB so you lose around 100MB I'm afraid.

31128 2002-01-14 01:38:00 Unfortunately formatting a disc does use some of it's capacity. Guest (0)
31129 2002-01-14 23:11:00 if you want to use the full 650mb you will have to erase the disc using disc eraser tool.
You will be able to use 650mb but you can only write to it like a normal disc. EG: you won't be able to use it like a big floppy disc & each time you want to write to it you will need to erase it first.
if you want to use it as a big floppy again just format it using direct cd.
cheers Steve
