| 31130 | 2002-01-13 22:38:00 | Can anyone help me out here? I have an IBM 760XD Thinkpad, 166Mhz, 64Mb Ram, running WinMe and Outlook Express 6. I recently installed Norton Antivirus2001 and 2 things have occured. I can not access the Live Update at all even though my connection is fine. Secondly, when opening outlook express 6, the following error message appears: 'Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possble causes for this include server problems, network problems or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop3.paradise.net.nz',Server: 'pop3.norton.antivirus', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure (SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F' Paradise is my ISP. When this appeared, the Internet connection icon in the lower right-hand corner was still there..in fact, the Internet works fine. The computer is not networked and it gets regular use. I sent myself an email as a test, but it has not come through. This is the 2nd time the error message has come up. I previously deleted the norton antivirus program with add/remove and reinstalled it...same problem though. Does anyone know what is happening here and how to stop it? Thanks. |

| 31131 | 2002-01-14 01:31:00 | Hi Jenny. You are not alone. I have recently uninstalled NAV 2001 as it was a trial version. When I first installed it, it changed my POP3 configuration to point to POP3.norton.antivius from my usual POP3 config. Now like you I can not access my e-mail having reloaded NAV 2000 which does not point to POP# etc. Like you I will be interested how to get around this. If we get no replies, and I doubt that we will be overlooked, the only way to get help will be to ask the ISP help desk to talk you through the correction. Bryan. |

| 31132 | 2002-01-14 03:56:00 | Hello Jenny, You will need to turn off the mail scanning feature of NAV as your machine does not really have enough resources to run it successfully, even on higher powered machines with fast internet access the 2001 email scanning proved problematic, especially with attachments, Nortons own 'work around' was to disable the e-mail scanning feature as your machine will still be protected as long as you have it set to have NAV scanning all files in the background 'default' this is logical as it uses the same virus definitions to peform both tasks. | 31133 | 2002-01-14 11:21:00 | I have had a lot of my clients discover problems with both Nortons Anti-Virus and Macaffee (sp?). Most of them bought a licence for NOD32. In 2.5Mb, you get a fast, powerful virus scanner that hardly even bites system resources. Most of the clients that purchased licences from me are running Windows 95 on old Pentium machines *with* the mail scanning utility running just fine. |

Connect through a phone line and modem, uncheck the tick in Dial using the--, in the telephone number box type your isp's telephone number click next type your user name and password.click next, the wizard has automatically inserted connection to plus telephone number in the Connection dialogue box, don't delete and just click next to do your e-mail. |

If visiting - worth a look near bottom quarter of page - a comparison chart of most 'known' AV programmes. NOD32 was first in that testing ... but the review is balanced and also explains NOD32's shortcomings. This is *not* Freeware. Interesting!!! e_ www.pcnineoneone.com |
