| 31071 | 2002-01-13 10:58:00 | Hi does any one know how to uninstall Zone Alarm 2.6(not the new version, the old one) cause just today I upgraded my Zone Alarm to Zone Alarm Pro but some how the programe keep slowing down my internet web page unloading and keeps causing the blue screens of death. I uninstall Zone Alarm Pro from the Add/Remove Programe(in Win98SE) and reinstall Zone Alarm. And ever since then, when ever I boot up my computer the bios shows this(well...something like this): Detected: Master Drive:[the type of the drive.] Detected: Master Drive:[the type of the drive] Detected: Slave Drive:[the type of the drive] Detected: Slave Drive:[the type of the drive]. Like I said it went something like this, this doesn't use to happen. I had my computer for 2 years now and I never seen anything like that at the bios start up. Does any one know how to get rid of that or what's happening to my computer. And how to actually uninstall Zone Alarm with out risking of reinstalling windows. I running in Win98Se, 500mhz and my motherboard is a Micro-ATX V16 (MS-5187). Thanks alot for your help :-) |

Your hard drive settings have reverted to an 'auto detect' setting where by the BIOS goes through and checks each IDE port one by one on startup. The fix goes something like this. Enter your BIOS by pressing the 'DEL' key on startup or and navigate your way to 'IDD HDD Auto Dectection' and manually set up your hard drives from there' Once set up the auto searching at startup will cease. Be WARNED..If your are unsure of how to do this seek more advice first as an incorrect setting could courrupt the data on your drives. As to how this came to pass Im not sure. I doubt it would have anything to do with Zone Alarm but then stranger things have happened. Read your manual if you have one. Good luck ==Orac== |

In the bios setup got to the 'detect hard drives'(I think) item and run that and it should cure your problem. Did you uninstall the previous version of Zonealarm before installing the new one. To uninstall just go to 'Add remove programs' and select the one you want to uninstall. | Guest (0) | ||

Maybe this was diabled recently and the BIOS had always been checking for drives? Mine is always set to auto detect(easiest) but I disable the Primary slave, because I don't use one at the mo and is quicker for it not to look for what is not there. |

| 31075 | 2002-01-13 23:41:00 | Thanks guys for your help, and to Mike Barton I do know how uninstall Zone Alarm from the Add/Remove Programe but the problem is when I do it from there, there will be a lot left over files and folder of Zone Alarm in my Window folder and my Programe folder, it's like it never had been uninstall (i'm sure when you actually uninstall a programe most of the files and folders will be deleted but Zone Alarm seem to just leave every file and foler behind). When ZA seems to be deleted from my computer my computer starts to freeze at boot ups and make my desktop icons disappear. I have tried to delete the folders and the files manually but there's so much files left behind, and some of they I don't even know where it is. And no I did not uninstall my pervious Zone Alarm before I installed the new one, why did you ask? (will that cause problems) Thanks for your guys help. :-) |
