| 31247 | 2002-01-14 21:20:00 | New virus is masquerading as a Microsoft Outlook Express update. Mon Jan 14 11:18:31 2002 Source: http://www.promisemark.com Don't be fooled by an email circulating the Internet disguised as a software update! The worm will arrive in your email with an address from someone you know. If you open the infected attachment the virus will send itself to everyone in your Microsoft Outlook Address Book. It will then attempt to reformat your hard drive. This action will delete all files and leave your computer inoperable. The worm is contained in an email that reads: From: (someone who has your address in their email contact folder) Subject: ?Outlook Express Update? Body: ?MSNSofware Co.? Attachment: Mmsn_offline.htm What you should do if you recognize this virus in your Inbox: If you receive an email matching this description, DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT, AS IT WILL INFECT YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM. Immediately delete the message from your Inbox and then from Deleted Items. To protect yourself, you should update your virus definitions and perform a virus scan. This was added to Norton's virus definitions on January 9 2002. |
