31083 2002-01-13 12:48:00 Don't like caps either.
Yes you do need a firewall and Steve Gibson reckons Zonealarm is the best and he knows more than most. I have never had any problems connecting to the net with it.

31084 2002-01-13 13:20:00 DONT LIKE CAPS!!
But yeah you need Firewall. Stick with Norton and just have regular updates. Zone Alarm is good if you dont wanna spend money...but since you have Norton then go with it...for now.

31085 2002-01-13 13:39:00 Yea, not nice to come in here, and ask a question using CAPS..... however, I have just downloaded Zone Alarm and say, go for it. Peace of Mind and all that!!!

And, it dosen't slow down your connection to the Internet either. That story is bollocks!!!

31087 2002-01-13 20:44:00 Even if you have nothing worth protecting(document wise) you still need to protect the hard drive which a hacker can screw (just for fun).
Zone Alarm is the one for me!

31089 2002-01-14 11:30:00 I used Zone Alarm for ages but then on version 2.6 I ran into problem after problem.

So, I switched to Tiny Personal Firewall (also free). It isnt' quite as intuitive as Zone Alarm but the resource use is better.

Which is another point. On many old machines I set up for people (like pentium class, 16Mb RAM), I think the resource hit is too big in conjunction with a virus scanner.
