I know that there's not enough for me to work it out, so if you can answer a few questions yourself, it could make it a bit easier. Describe your system...CPU, CD-ROM make and type (ATAPI/IDE/SCSI etc), approximate age of the system, whether it worked before or if it's been broken since you got it. Have you changed any hardware or software lately? I think it will help the folk here to better diagnose your problem if you supply at least that much info. This sounds like a rather old machine. The last time I saw an error that resembled yours was on a 486 running Win95 and the CD-ROM was attached to an inexpensive combination sound card and CD controller. The error I had at that time was solved by replacing the ribbon cable from the sound card to the CD-ROM. Sorry I can't be more forthcoming with the answer...I just don't have enough info. {:-* |

| 31460 | 2002-01-17 00:41:00 | Have you recently installed software that is supposed to run from a cd. If this is so and it has accidentaly got installed in the startup, Windows could be looking for it. Solution, go to add/remove programs and remove program and reinstall, making sure where you install it to. | Guest (0) | ||
| 31461 | 2002-01-20 09:30:00 | Hello there Andy, Since I posted the above subject, I have a worse problem in that I can not start my pc at all. The monitor desplays the box screen, and the power at the pc case seems ok, but nothing else happens. The mother board is an early 586 with 200mmx chip, and the hard drive is a quantum 850mb, can you put me right, Dick. | Guest (0) | ||
