| 31331 | 2002-01-15 09:43:00 | Whenever I start up the computer, I get the message 'Windows Registry Checker has found an error in the Registry. Press OK to restore a recent backup.' I got this message infrequently to begin with, but it became more frequent, until now it happens every single time I start up. When I click OK and it restarts, it works fine (although any changes made to the registry made since the last boot, like recent Run entries) are forgotten. How do I repair the registry so I don't get this problem? Do I need a 3rd party program? Thanks |

| 31332 | 2002-01-15 09:53:00 | I'm getting this same problem, and I think I've narrowed it down to being an actual hard-drive problem (in my case anyway) - I've formatted, fdisked, low-level formatted, everything I can think of, loaded ME, loaded 98SE etc. etc. and still get the same error after a while, then it increases in frequency over the days... I have no idea how to fix it either, so I wait in anticipation for any suggestions. | Guest (0) | ||
| 31333 | 2002-01-15 22:41:00 | Hi Jack, Your registry has some how become corrupt (possibly during shut down). Microsoft supplies a very basic tool with Win 98/Me to repair registry problems. Press F8 when the message 'Starting Windows 98 ...' appears on your screen, select the option to boot to the command prompt. At the command prompt type scanreg /fix, this will attempt to repair the problem. If the registry becomes corrupt agian then the problem may lie deeper. |

| 31335 | 2002-01-16 09:57:00 | Thanks a lot. I followed your instructions, and it successfully fixed the registry. For now... Is there anything I can do that will reduce the likelihood/effect of such a problem occuring again? |
