An excellent book for beginners. They have 20% off all computer books at the moment. I have seen a smaller book called Linux for beginners and it also comes with Red Hat 7.1. It is a very basic but good guide to get up and running with Linux. I haven't seen it at Whitcoulls but have seen it in a couple of the smaller independantly owned bookstores. Graham has just told us of an excellent new site with heaps of easy to understand info on Linux. http://www.startlinux.co.nz/ |

The beauty of most of the Linux books is that they (a) contain real information; not just a printed form of the manufacturers 'Help' pages, and (b) are written by people who have used the software (or written it) and know the tricks. I put up a reading list in October. Use the search window at the top of this page for 'reading list'; click on 'Site', and my list has the date 27/10/01. Check out your public library ... it might have some of the good books. |

This may only be with Red Hat as this is the version i've been using but i've heard that mandrake is better for first time users. | Guest (0) | ||
