31281 2002-01-15 05:40:00 Is it possible to use my HP recovery Cd (Pavillion series) to install certain programs (eg. Syncro Connect Home & Sim City) on someone elses no-particular-brand computer? I know that I can re-install certian programs off the cd onto my computer.

31282 2002-01-15 06:01:00 If the programme has a directory of its own, and a setup programme in that directory, probably.

Try it.

The CD will 'certainly' refuse to boot and give you a nice install menu system except on the HP model it was made for.

Look in the Zipped files under applications or similar, using WinZip in the Classic Mode. You will be able to tell what each zipped folders contain usually by the .exe file name, or even by opening the readme file in each folder.

Double click the exe file for the programs you want and they will install independently.

31285 2002-01-15 07:07:00 Ok, here is what works with the recovery CD's for the HP's for the last couple of years.

Change your folder options to show hidden files and folders and untick hide known file extensions.

Next open the Application Recovery CD, inside will be a folder called 'empty' (oh yes that will fool them they said), this folder contains all the application zip files numbered sequentialy.

Open the reg file in there named 'Recovery.reg' with notepad, this will give you the names of all the zip files.

You will see sections that look something like this:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Hewlett-Packard\Recovery\Applications\20 Adaptec]
'Title' = 'Easy CD Creator and DirectCD'
'Program' = '%Source Path%\\20269703.exe'
'Parameters' = '/auto'

that tells you the name and number of each application.

Then just open the file you want, some will be tied in to the HP computer though.
