| 31595 | 2002-01-17 07:19:00 | Okay Team Here's the go! After installing the WinME Defrag engine, I defragged my already unfragmented 2GB drive in less than 60 seconds vs 60 minutes for Powerdefrag on the same unfragmented drive. My 20GB disk defragged 2.5GB of files in 15 minutes flat, including two restarts at 50% and 90%, (recovery time in each case less than 60 seconds). I ran the ME defrag in Safe Mode but I suspect that it would make little difference in normal mode. There is clearly something wrong with my PowerDefrag download because it definitely boots to a full program load. I'll uninstall it and download another copy. Maybe I'll get even faster results with the WinME engine (greedy greedy). Thanks to all for comments and guidance. Now, can anybody tell me how to stop all my desktop shortcuts getting reordered after running in Safe Mode. It's a right irritation having to reposition them all after using Safe Mode. |

I also prefer WME defrag, so I renamed 'defrag.exe' to 'defrag-98.exe' and copied the WME version to the same folder, and renamed it 'defrag.exe' . So now PowerDefrag runs the WME defrag engine. Safemode messes up my desktop too. Brendan |

| 31598 | 2002-01-17 10:13:00 | Brendan Yes I am using W98. See my earlier post & replies for the history. I have used the link recommended by Terry to change to the ME version of defrag. That is a sweet & simple exercise but I had problems with my original download of Power Defrag. I have just downloaded version 2.01 (beta) and although I haven't tried a defrag with it yet, at least it now gets my HDD sizes right. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

Odd name for a program though, sounds more like the emotional state of a geek after the 27th consecutive crash that day or the loss of a year's work due to simultaneous self-immolation of the originals and all backups one hour before deadline.
