| 31559 | 2002-01-17 04:53:00 | Installed IE6 from PCWorld CD, and now at random intervals while using the internet, the whole sytem will freeze such that ctrl>alt>del won't even work. Went back to IE5.5 and that did the same thing. Reinstalled IE6 but no joy again. Any assistance would be much appreciated. I'm running a 1GHz motherboard, 128MB Ram, and using a dial-up modem (Zfree connection) |

No sorry, couldn't help myself. :oD There's a DLL in your system that probably is shared and most likely was updated by the IE6 installation routine. My guess is, that version of the DLL is incompatible with the other progam(s) using it, causing memory conflicts and lockups. So replacing it with the original would presumably fix the problem. Trick is to know which DLL is the problem. Unless you're running a version of Windows with the roll-back feature, you are unlikely to ID the offending beastie. The best suggestion I can offer is to reinstall IE6 and download the latest bug-fixes...(err I mean service packs) for IE in the hope it'll sort out your hassles. :-) |
