32205 2002-01-21 10:16:00 Yes, there's one called DOS.

;-)

Shut down to DOS, check that the DOS prompt is at the WINDOWS directory, and key in the following:

SMARTDRV

DELTREE TEMPOR~1

EXIT

(N.B. You will be asked to confirm the delete.)

The folder will be rebuilt as windows reloads, and a nice fresh new index.dat file will be built for you.

You can also do the following directories if you feel inclined:

DELTREE COOKIES

DELTREE TEMP

DELTREE HISTORY

Keep in mind that deleting your cookies in this way will wipe out any preferences that may be stored for websites you visit.

32206 2002-01-21 19:54:00 Hi David.

John's method is great but if you want to delete the files without going into DOS you can do it from Windows. The following method however does not remove the index.dat file.

Start/Settings/Control Panel/Internet Options/General. Select Tempoary Internet files and click on delete.

Bryan.

32207 2002-01-21 23:21:00 Here's a post I made a while ago. I think it's the best of both worlds

There's a way to do it automatically and know that their definately gone.

Edit autoexec.bat with notepad and add these lines

deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1\index.dat

and

deltree /y c:\windows\tempor~1\*.*

to kill cookies just add two more lines and replace tempor~1 with cookies
