32209 2002-01-21 09:28:00 Could someone please tell me if it costs to send a fax from my computer, and if it does cost, can you give me some idea of how much?

Cheers!

32210 2002-01-21 09:44:00 Hi Mel

A fax sent from a PC using standard fax software dials the required number and connects over the phone line exactly the same way as if you dialled the number from your standard phone. This means that you pay the same as if you dialled the number for a voice conversation. It is generally not done through your internet service provider.

If the call is not a local call (or if you pay for local calls), then you would pay the applicable call charges.

The one thing to realise however, is that sending a one page fax usually takes less than a minute, so your total cost, even to overseas countries, is minimal.

There are also internet fax facility programs out there, which I understand are mostly USA based. Whether these are cost-effective or not I can't comment on, sorry.

32211 2002-01-21 09:46:00 I have faxed within NZ no charge. don't know about overseas. Guest (0)
32212 2002-01-21 09:46:00 Faxing from your PC is just like using the telephone. Local calls/faxes are free (from home that is), non-local faxes are toll calls and cost the same as telephone toll calls for the duration of the connection.

Tip: If you want to fax around NZ or overseas do it when the cheap telephone rates are on.

32214 2002-01-21 14:14:00 Hii,

Well i saw this article and realized i could also do faxes from my PC...thats cool

Can anyone tell me how to go about faxing it. If i have a word doc all typed up ready to be faxed. Do i fax it from within Word or do i need some other software for it. If so where do i get it. Is it free or does it cost? Or is this capability built in the OS. I have Win XP running.

And so is it still gonna come out of the fax machine at the other end or does it have to be a PC at the other end to receive the fax. I dont know much on faxing from PC's :)
Thankxx

32215 2002-01-22 10:44:00 Go to http//support.microsoft.com/support/windows/readme/98/w98wms-faxtxt.asp for info on win 98 fax. Me does not have it but if you can get hold of a 98 or 95 disc I believe you can load it.
sends and receives fine Pam.

32216 2002-01-22 19:29:00 Thanks for the help people...but so far no luck...I have no disc...my sytem came with W 98 pre-installed and so far I have not been able to find the folder needed to install MsFax anyway...I just have this RingCentral Fax that also came preinstalled. So I guess I will just have to give up....for now anyway. Guest (0)
