32571 2002-01-24 04:20:00 Hi,

Upon reccomendation I have downloaded the packaged version of wine from codeweavers. I assume this looks basically the same as any other version of wine, so could all you knowledgable wine users tell me how to operate it from in a terminal window. I was under the assumption that you need to type (in a terminal):

wine - [path of file in windows]

Or:

wine - <path of file in windows>

Neither appears to work. It does say that you can operate wine from in the KDE menu system, but I have trouble with the /mnt partition, perhaps you can look at the posting regarding this...

So, what is the command to operate a windows file from in a terminal window???

Thanks in advance!

Erin

32572 2002-01-24 05:03:00 If you are running an XWindow application like wine, it might help to give a '-display 0:0' option to the command line ... so it knows where to send the screen output.

There might be security settings to be made as well. That might be what is stopping KDE from running it, too.

To run a program, I just cd to where it is on my windows partiton, and run it from there. eg:

cd '/mnt/windows/Program Files/Microsoft Office/Office/'

wine Winword.exe

32574 2002-01-24 07:42:00 Hi,

Thanks for your posting, I've sorted out how to run programs now that I have wine configured properly, but I notice that you use the cd location the way you would under windows. In dos you would say 'cd progra~1' for example. Mine makes me use 'Program\ Files' and 'Age\ of\ Empires\ II' which I can assure you is a right pain to use... Is it possible to convert to windows or dos commands like 'program files' or 'Progra~1'???

Thanks again,

Erin
