| 32525 | 2002-01-23 19:44:00 | Can someone help - I have a small spreadsheet where I have to convert the hours:minutes that have been calculated into a hours and decimal points of an hour which can then be used again to calculate a production rate. At present it all works well except when it comes to the hours:minutes I have to type in the hours and minutes represented as a decimal of the hour, in a seperate column which is used in another formula. Is there a forumla that says these hours:minutes = hours and decimal point of an hour? I don't care how long the formula is as long as it works, the problem seems to be that it is only the minutes that are calulated as a decimal point - have tried repesenting in minutes only etc but does not seem to like that? For example, If cell B1 contains the number 100, cell B2 contains the time 02:30, the formula in cell B3 to calculate the production rate is =B1/B2/24. You may have to format B3 as NUMBER after applying the formula as Excel may default to TIME format in B3. HTH |

This is quite hard if you don't know how, but I have a add-in that was developed for engineering purposes which will convert deg/min/sec to decimal degrees and vice versa. I haven't tested it for time applications, but I see no reason why this won't work for times since time is essentially an angular measurement. I can email you the add-in and instructions on it's use if you like. Perhaps with your permission, rb could forward your email address to me if you don't want to post it for all and sundry to see.
