| 32579 | 2002-01-24 04:27:00 | Hi, Whenever I try to access the /mnt partition from under mandrake I get a hefty delay (as much as 5 minutes) before I can veiw the contents of it. I get this when saving something I've downloaded, opening an Mp3 through Noatun, accessing it for any reason through K>Quick Browser>Root Directory>/mnt, or by navigating to it from any file manager. If I access it through a terminal window there is no lag whatsoever. During the wait for the contents of /mnt to appear there appears to be no demand on the hard drive, and presumably not the CPU either because my thermosensitive cooling remains at constant speed. Something I've just realised is that my floppy drive is not connected, ansd is located under the /mnt partition (according to linux) and it may be trying to acces it during this time... Is that a possibility? Thanks, Erin |

I don't know what happens in KDE when you try to access '/mnt', when data can be only in '/mnt/cdrom' and '/mnt/floppy'. It may be trying to mount devices on both sub-directories (and retrying -- lengthily if there is no disk in the floppy drive). Do 'tail -20 /var/log/messages' in a text window after you have tried one of these long-delayed operations to see what happened. | Guest (0) | ||
