32650 2002-01-24 09:57:00 Anyone know any program that able to stop anyone from login into computer which running win9x without the correct user password? 32651 2002-01-24 10:10:00 There should be an option in your BIOS to require a password before the computer will boot. To get into BIOS you will have to press a key (usually the 'delete' key, but it should mention what key)), just after the memory test during boot up.

NB. Be careful when in the BIOS, don't fiddle with stuff you don't know about.

32653 2002-01-24 10:28:00 Yup I know the best one. Access Denied. You can download it for free. Theres a cost one and a free one. Basically it's the best. (Thats what I think) It starts when your run win and while still loading win in dos it asks for username and pass 3 fails and it beeps telling you to turn off the com. You can even customise the messages. Like: 'Hey ya bum enter your password.'
Oh yeah you can get it at:

Get it. You will be soooo happy.

32654 2002-01-24 16:17:00 Sorry, I think that i forget to explain more clearly about what i want. If you read my last posting about 'network printer software', you will know that i got networked computer. The reason that i don't want ppl get to use the computer without login is because I cannot record who is actually using the printer and how much he use. This is basically is for recording purpose. Any idea??? Thanks for the help!

32655 2002-01-25 03:14:00 You are looking for a 'secure' system. Whatever level of security you have on the system vanishes if anyone can get access to a computer and boot it with a floppy, or open the box.

No Windows 9X passwording is secure at all. The BIOS password might work, but most desktop BIOS passwords have a known overriding password. This can be done from the keyboard.

If you lock away the computer which contains the printer log file, you will protect it from anyone who does not have a key (or a crowbar).

My initial suggestion (a network printer server which keeps a history file) might still be the simplest answer.
I have used several models of the AXIS ones, and they all have had this feature, other brands (Intel, etc) probably have it.

The log would be non accessible to anyone but you (with your password), and you could even keep the prointer server's IP address secret.
