1289080 2012-07-17 11:55:00 So I am thinking about upgrading my router to the version above it which is the TL-WR1043ND and I read Chill's blog post on the router and gargoyle and wondered what is Half bridge and what would I gain from doing it? nedkelly (9059)
1289081 2012-07-17 12:20:00 This ? (www.gpforums.co.nz). Or this? (www.geekzone.co.nz) Speedy Gonzales (78)

1289083 2012-07-17 21:11:00 Look in Google (www.google.co.nz 246.698.2-3.3.0...0.0...1c.p_I57CGVB7Q&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.,cf.osb&fp=adc3a007eab89a7&biw=1920&bih=898) Speedy Gonzales (78)
1289084 2012-07-18 01:09:00 Half-bridge basically takes the public IP address that you'll be getting (For example lets say you use the Linksys AM300 in Half-bridge mode, with the Gargoyle Router) on your AM300 and it passes it off to the Gargoyle router to use as its WAN IP.

This means you don't have issues with double NAT. The AM300 keeps being accessible on 192.168.1.1 (Coz it tells Gargoyle to route 192.168.1.1 out the WAN), while handing over the public IP of (say) 60.234.123.123 to your Gargoyle router.

Otherwise what happens if you *don't* have something like Half-bridge is your AM300 gets the public IP Address of 60.234.123.123, as well as having its LAN interface on 192.168.1.1, then the gargoyle gets its WAN interface as 192.168.1.2.

It makes life slightly more difficult if port-forwarding to a PC on your LAN, some games get a bit pissy, things like that...
