Unless of course they attempted to put one through in summer and found that it was impassable for most of the year. I've hunted up that way for years and haven't heard about any other road from the locals, nor seen any visible signs of any old track that could be classed as a road ... mind you, back then they were a hardy lot and it would have been bullock tracks to begin with. Central Otago has some really special "roads" ... driven them in the comfort of a 4WD in summer ... couldn't imagine doing it in a wagon towed by bullocks in the middle of winter ... many perished due to the cold, but the gold drove people to do some reckless things back then. | SP8's (9836) | ||
