1264922 2012-03-14 08:48:00 When I read his book the kid who climbed Everest I thought what an arrogant prick, then I read his autobiography a few years later and it changed my mind. Still not a fan of his TV show really though gary67 (56)

"Other episodes have seen Grylls dropped by parachute into jungles and deserts, surviving for days by eating snakes, sleeping in snow holes and wrapping a urine-soaked t-shirt around his head to combat dehydration.

"Man vs. Wild", is broadcast in Britain as "Born Survivor: Bear Grylls" and shown in some 200 countries around the world.

Grylls climbed Mt Everest at the age of 23 and served for three years in Britain's elite Special Air Service, training in parachuting, jungle warfare and combat survival."

I'd hesitate to call him an arrogant prick. I'm not a fan of him or his show, but he does deserve some kudos.

1264924 2012-03-14 09:01:00 It's just the way he came across in the Everest book, his autobio though was totally different and put his efforts in a much better light gary67 (56)
1264925 2012-03-14 18:45:00 Like most (all?) reality tv programs his is 90% bull****. At the very least there is a cameraman and soundman right there with him along with all mod cons. He is in no danger whatever and although he is an obviously fit well built individual he does not have any special skills other than the ability to talk nonstop whilst pretending to carry out stupid activities. One of his programmes I happened to see a while back was the making of man v wild, he does do all those things and he makes his cameraman go through the same he does ie: when he jumps off a cliff into water 10m below, or crosses a fast moving river etc. the camera man was fair packing a lot of the time, but had faith in Grylls guidence. Thats not to say there isnt some dramatisation is his programmes though, I'm sure he does to try and make it more exciting for viewers, but I dont think they pack up and go stay in a hotel each night and resume the following day. 1264927 2012-03-14 19:42:00 Its all staged, not to say he doesn't put himself at risk, he delbritly does so, a hop, a skip, and a jump away from the safe way through.

Look him up on youtube, there are some stunners, Which has a lot to do with the disclaimers now attached to the program about staging.

The man is the real deal, His TV show isn't quite.

Still, Its the only show I bother to watch.

Well, and family Guy.

1264928 2012-03-14 20:50:00 I saw his Aussie effort. Walking through a rather lush green paddock dribbling on about deserts.

I remember the girls in Rabbit Proof Fence - girls....walking thousands of miles really through the desert. Without backpacks of handy stuff, without camera crew, without anything, and hiding as they went too.

Went right off him then....
