If they dont want the exposure they dont have to stand for public office.Do you insist on knowing everything about your staff, seeing as you pay them. |

I'd think that even most politicians would disagree with you in your expectation that they should be the cream of society. Given that politicians traditionally rank right up there with used-car salesmen & traffic wardens in the public respect stakes, I'm guessing they already know that they're not considered the "cream of society". There's a wide range of motivations to become a politician - some even quite noble, say serving the community, etc. Sure, they shouldn't have any major skeletons in the closet if they are to represent us, but that sort of thing is eagerly jumped on by opposing politicians, so there's already a bit of filtering going on there. I have no problems with them if they are there for the right reasons & do their job properly - their sexual orientation should have nothing to do with that, and hence nothing to do with us. I'm still not sure where you get the idea that people "choose" to be gay. If you could back that up somehow we might all be a little more enlightened. Are you saying you could switch allegiances just on a whim? Or are you referring to the likes of those (e.g. prisoners) who might engage in homosexual activity out of desperation? Do you consider such people "gay"? |

I have a female family member who married a man, got divorced and then became lesbian. Another lesbian family(?) member somehow ended up pregnant :stare: |

Another lesbian family(?) member somehow ended up pregnant :stare: I suspect that your family member was always lesbian, but got married because it was the "done thing" & she felt she had to suppress (or didn't want to admit to herself) her true self. Being married fulltime probably made her realise her mistake. I'll bet that this happens due to societal/family expectations, rather than the true feelings of those involved. I'm sure a lot of lesbians get pregnant because they have a natural urge to become parents & they have the right equipment to DIY once that finicky first step is out of the way. I'm sure the mothering ambition might trump your natural lack of inclination to have conventional intercourse - although you can always artificially inseminate somehow. Even if the pregnancy was unintentional, maybe it was an "experiment" gone wrong? |

This still doesn't explain those who are bi. |

| 1265252 | 2012-03-19 03:56:00 | This still doesn't explain those who are bi. There's a wide spectrum between totally homo & totally hetero. The bi's are just closer to the middle than most. You see references to the "bi-curious", which would apply if you were a bit closer to either end than the middle, I guess; you identify in one camp, but mightn't be averse to fooling around in the other. Personally, if I imagine it, I find the thought of performing homosexual activity fairly unnatural rather than stimulating, which I take to mean I'm at, or pretty close to, the hetero end of the line (I can't say whether I'm "more" heterosexual than some other self-identified heterosexual - how do you measure that?). I suppose a bisexual person doesn't have the same hangup as I would in the same situation & would be attracted by the prospect. |
