Very quickly indeed, you wouldn't be. You would be sitting in a suddenly fertile patch of desert.

1265328 2012-03-16 09:29:00 FYI, the following is from the RNZAF site, and may help explain why so many airmen are wandering around Ohakea with a smile on their dials lately:

"The fleet of eight NH90s will be acquired with a logistics and support package which includes a range of ongoing provisions for spare parts, project costs, training, software, publications support and equipment. The total cost of eight NH90s and the full support and logistics package is $771million. The support and logistics costs represent over a third of this total. The budget for the helicopter project has been allocated through the ten-year Defence Long Term Development Plan."

1265330 2012-03-16 10:24:00 I'd give my balls to do that.

A shame the NZAF will probably never get anything more interesting than 2nd hand helicopters, that being said I'll probably never get into the NZAF.

I thought the navy had the new choppers?

1265331 2012-03-16 20:27:00 Personally i'd never touch a helicopter that was heading anywhere near a war zone. They are slow, noisy and clumsy with all the modern technology designed to take them down, added to that if due to stresses of "war" and whatnot, if one of your mechanics fails to looks after the engine properly and it fail, you have no chance. You're gonna be on the deck.

That being said, for what NZ does with its military they are actually very capable machines. It's good to see the military spending and expanding.

No ! they are at Ohakea Air Force Base. Navy ships would not be big enough to house them. lol.

That's great then, otherwise they would all be off to Aus. like the 2,500 state employees being laid off. The Australians are looking for good staff, The Press of today's date.
