I dont know, but that sounds pretty heavy for one average person to be lugging around doesnt it? As for the guy, why is he deserved a second chance, one between the eyes would have done nicely. |

| 1265122 | 2012-03-15 06:29:00 | A Somalian shot by police this morning after a kidnapping and stabbing rampage in Christchurch was known to police. The 27-year-old, wielding two large knives on a Hoon Hay street, was shot by police after stabbing two people and forcing a primary school to close. And they shot him? Damn, I hope they only wounded him, then they could have shot him again, and again, and again, and then burned his body on the street. |

I very much doubt that the crowbar was 80kg. You wouldn't do a lot of work with one of that weight. A 20kg crowbar would be a weighty one. |

| 1265125 | 2012-03-15 19:11:00 | I haven't yet had any concern about NZ police and guns, shootings are uncommon and seem to be last resort as they should be. When you watch american programs though they give you the impression shooting someone is perfectly acceptable even if they are just running away from you. I watched a reality show about american traffic police one time where the police had trapped someone in a stolen truck and he was driving up and down a short section of road they had blocked off at both ends. He was going nowhere and to my mind would have realised it eventually or run out of fuel. One of the brave officers ran up and shot him through the door as he was slowly driving down the road. I'm sure you could argue he was a danger to the public or the police as long as he was in control of the truck but to my mind he was contained already and there was no immediate need to shoot him. The more common handguns become with both criminals and police, the more likely it is people will get shot. I really don't want to see NZ let the gun situation get that bad. |
