2002-01-27 09:27:00 | Hi people, My soccer club needs to have their site hosted. Xtra want $25 per month for 20Mb max, no charge for traffic, but doesn't include domain name costs. Anyone got any suggestions? The club doesn't have heaps of spare money (heard that before). Any suggestions appreciated. robo.

2002-01-27 09:58:00 | Hey Robo, I've been through exactly the same process with exactly the same requirements (zero cost, decent-ish URL) recently trying to get a free website for my business... Here's how I organise my low budget (as in free) web site for my business: 1.) Paradise.net allow 10MB free with an account, and you get 50MB traffic or something like that... 2.) your address is unfortunately homepages.paradise.net.nz To get around this I have a URL redirection service, also free (but you have to have a 88 by 120 pixel ad on your site somewhere... That may sound bad, but it is unobtrusive, and tiny, and you can always stick it at the bottom of your page, out of the way. this is best I could find (after hours of looking, believe me) for a free option, I can't remember the name of their site, but you would no doubt be taken to it by clicking the ad on my website (www.geniuscomputers.mirrorz.com), it's the little blue animation near the top. 3.)Ftp your page to the location at paradise.net, and it'll appear when you type in the URL you choose at the redirection site. It'll even mask the URL into the address bar, so that you don't ever see it... The only real restriction on the plan is that you can only choose from a small selection of redirection URLs. You have to have one ending in about a selection of twenty different .somethings.com. Still, considering it's free, I'm not complaining... Ahh I hear you are thinking, I don't have a paradise account... Most isp's will have some free web space (looks like xtra does not), but I'm sure there'd be a generous paradise user out there who would be willing to donate their free webspace to a good cause... anyone??? Make your plea robo! I'd give mine, but it's already got my site on it, sorry. Hope that helps :) Erin

2002-01-27 10:16:00 | www.cjb.net offers free URL redirection, last time I had a ste running there was no nees for ads. Just have the site as www.yourname.cjb.net Inspire.net.nz has 20MB for $25per month with 2000MB traffic. JM PS. Erin I noticed that you mentioned about the spelling of some ads on this site. Have a look at how you spelt 'multimedia' on the main page of your site.

2002-01-27 11:02:00 | Robo, To a soccer club $300 per year is a valuable resource, having a fashionable URL is not. Spend nothing on the website, get free space, and free redirection, and get some fancy new gear for the lads with the $300. :) Erin

2002-01-27 19:55:00 | Robo, Try WebInternet in ALk. They recently sponsored a free mail service to a non-profit organisation I helped set up, in return for a link back to their web site. If they are unable to repeat this, their standard rates are also low and service excellent. Contact: Dean, Deanna or David on tel: 0508 932638 or root@win.co.nz www.win.co.nz
