| 33311 | 2002-01-29 00:04:00 | I cannot run defrag or scan disk when i select defrag it just sits on 0% and does nothing scandisk seems to work but then a message about restarting because of programs running comes up Also the system freezes quite regularly and has to be rebooted and just seems unstable is it a virus or just an old computer that should be replaced? I have Win 98 and have 7.042MG |

If you can't do the defrag in Safe Mode, you might try booting from a floppy or the installation CD to do that. It will pay you to reinstall the OS when you have cleaned up the disk anyway. |

| 33315 | 2002-01-29 03:40:00 | Hello Susan, scandisk and defrag problems are usually caused by something running in the background, and running these two programs in safe mode will help. or there is free small program called powerdefrag on www.mediahorizon.net that might help you. Cleaning out the following folders may also help glitchyness. Temp. Internet folder, History folder, Cookies folder, and Temp. Folder. The first two can be cleared from the controll panel/internet options, general tab, the last two can be found in the windows folder.Be sure to delete only whats in the folders, not the folders themselves, good luck, Bob |
