| 33297 | 2002-01-28 15:36:00 | Everytime I connect to the internet or use the e-mail facilities, I get disconnected after only 2-3 minutes and have to redial again, this too only lasts another 10-20sec and then disconnects. This happens at all times of the day and night.I've had telecom check lines and wall jacks; the manufacturer and 2 ISP companies gave me alternate commands for my pc, and I even returned the bloody thing to the place of purchase to have them run it in front of me to see the problem for themselves and it never happened, the guy said it maybe a residential line problem as his was running off a business line.My system is a HP pavilion 8960,conexant soft56k modem with windows XP. PLEASE HELP!! | Guest (0) | ||

Shouldn't affect you when on line but has been known to prevent a dial up connection. Cordless Phones on the same line or using the same wall jack as the modem line? Some Cordless Phones play hell with modems. Same applies to Fax Machines. The above is probably not a lot of help but it might help. |

| 33300 | 2002-01-28 22:30:00 | Hi Anika, If you use outlook express to view your mail go to tools/options/connections and make sure 'disconnect after sending or receiving' is unchecked. Other mail programs may have a simmilar setting. HTH PC. | Guest (0) | ||

I assume that your ISP's helpdesk has run through your DUN, network and Internet Connections settings - if not get them to talk you through the correct settings over the phone. If all else fails see if you can borrow a better modem - an ISA model (assuming you have an ISA slot), although using older technology, tends to be seriously more robust in handling iffy connections. |

As it is possible that your cord might have been streeched or damaged. There for if it gets knocked, even just a little bit, that can upset it, and disconnect. If you haven't tried a different cord, maybe that's a solution. |
