| 33177 | 2002-01-28 00:35:00 | Anyone got any good advice for someone attempting to flash a motherboard for the first time. My manufacturers instructions are translated really badly into english and I'm a little concerned about doing it. I was told you can copletely fry the board. | Guest (0) | ||
| 33178 | 2002-01-28 01:01:00 | what manafacture?? model?? you won't fry the board, just kill the bios chip which if you are lucky can be replaced. get the right bios. get the correct bios flashing program. if they don't have one get one from the bios chip maker ie award etc. the newer bios flashers are almost fool proof. turn off bios settings- virus detect, video bios cacheable, system bios cacheable, shadow rom. anything that copies bios data to ram including video data to ram. do you really need to update the bios? it sometimes can be a backwould step so make sure you keep a copy of your old bios. the bios flasher will (thou not always) ask you to back up old one before you flash new one. also exspeacly with old bios they don't like to be flashed often. |
