I've been burning audio cds using nero and easy cd creator, and they all playback fine in any other verisons of windows and on any home stereo's to discmans etc. But for some reason it seems only doesnt work in win2000 machines. The cd plays, but without sound. Can someone explain why this is happening? |

Most likely reason is that the cd-roms on the win2000 machines do not have an audio cable that goes from the cd-rom drive to the audio board. You can test this by sticking some speakers in the cd-rom headphone jack at the front of the cd-rom (if it has one) if sound comes from this jack, then you know that it is the cable missing between cd-rom and audio board |

There is a audio cable in there (of course), the machine with win2000 it can play anything with sound, games, mp3's directly from cd, etc.. but just not audio cd. Matter of face, everything was playing fine before i upgraded from WIN ME to WIN2000 from a clean installation. There is a dvd rom as well a HP cd writer on the machine by the way. I've even installed other audio cd player software just to test it, but they just can play audio cds. There must be something causing this problem.
