I'm building a PC for someone and it has a Samsung SV4002H 40Gb hard drive. I am using a brand new Soltek SL-65LIV-T Mainboard with Award BIOS version 6.00PG. The BIOS is only recognising 32GB of the hard drive. I know that there was a limitation with the older Award BIOS versions, but this appears to be the latest available. IDE Primary Master and Access Mode are both set to Auto in BIOS. Has anyone else encountered this problem and found a fix? |

D-uh! I found my own fix. The hard drive had been installed in the owner's previous computer, which was 5 years old. Because his previous BIOS had not supported large disks, the jumpers had been set to limit the usable capacity to 32GB, thus enabling his old computer to boot. I had just put the drive in his new computer without double checking the jumpers. A jumper change was all that was needed. |
