33122 2002-01-27 20:23:00 I recently purchased a 5 pack of 'Transonic' CD-RWs, 10* Compatible.
However when I attempted to write to one, I receive a 'write protected' message. I have tried both 'Adaptic Easy CD Creator' and 'Direct CD'. Any suggestions?

33124 2002-01-28 00:57:00 If they have been used b4 then you need to format them first because it will close the session after you used it and the cdrw drive wont recognise it as a cdr/w Guest (0)
33125 2002-01-28 09:18:00 The CD-RW has not been used before.
When I attempted to format the disk using the 'Adaptic Direct CD Wizard' I received an 'illegal request' message: 'You will not be able to read and write to the disk through drive letter access'.

33127 2002-01-28 21:46:00 Hello Trevor,
perplexing isnt it, I'm wondering if the Transonic isnt as compatable as they say it is,maybe it would be worth buying a single cd-w of another type to see if the same problem develops.
cheers,
Bob

33128 2002-01-29 02:40:00 Thank you Bob!
I have used other CD-RWs without problems. Is the speed significant? 10*

33129 2002-01-29 03:29:00 Hello Trevor,
Yeh could be that *10 is the speed of disc,..unusual though isnt it,changing Current write or read speed to 10 or under could be worth a go,
double click directcd icon on system tray, click next, make sure your drive for the writer is highlighted, and click properties, you can change your speeds in there,
good luck,
Bob

33130 2002-01-31 09:42:00 Does the drive support 10x re-writing ?

Sometimes with cheap nasties, they have to be formatted at 4x, then they can be written at 10x.

Why buy cheap nasties, when good ones that you know work are not that expensive ?

I got some Imation CDR for $1.99 the other day all worked fine. I have tried warehouse $1.99 ones, and they always give me grief, not always when writing, but usually when I want to use the CD.

(sorry for my rant, but it staggers me what lengths people go to just to save 5c)
