33455 2002-01-29 15:24:00 Hello all, I have just installed a new motherboard and everything was great. Until I decided to have a play around in the bios. (yes I know) When I went to reboot the machine after my play around, all I got was one long beep of about 3 or 4 seconds and then the machine turned itself off. No post, nothing on the screen, so I can't get back into the bios and undo any changes I had made. I changed the ram, re-seated the video cards, removed and replaced the battery, cleared the CMOS using the jumpers as per motherboard book instructions, but still nothing. One long beep and the machine turns itself off. Can I have ruined my new motherboard. All the lights & LEDs etc still go. The machine just won't boot. It is a Phoenix BIOS and I had a look at their site but the info was a bit skimpy. Can anyone help me please. I can't stand the thought that I have just blown a few hundred dollars.

Thanks.

With mine I hold down the ins key while I power up, this then takes you straight into the bios.

33457 2002-01-29 20:12:00 Motherboards can be unpredictable when playing with the BIOS, can I suggest a small guide which I find invaluable. It's called The Hardware guide and has a massive section on the BIOS and how not to use it. from http://srana.cjb.net
Give it a go.

33458 2002-01-29 20:51:00 Hi Stu. Pid :)

Double check that your RAM is seated properly. If that doesn't work, take out your new motherboard, put it back into the anti-static bag, back into the box, put your manual and m/board CD into the box as well, get into your car and drive down to the shop you bought it from, and get them to fix/replace it for you as it should be under warranty if you just bought it.

33459 2002-01-29 23:06:00 If I remember my boot codes correctly, a long 3 second beep means a CMOS chip error - possibly something when wrong when saving the settings? A replacement chip should fix it. Guest (0)
33460 2002-01-30 02:54:00 This is not the normal way to enter the bios, it is for when you alter a setting in the bios that is going to prevent the normal post boot. Guest (0)
