33354 2002-01-29 08:17:00 Hi All, I'm just having a bit of a clean out of all the trial ware/free ware in my puter and am wondering what (in your learned opinion) are the essential programs I should keep?....apart from the firewall/Anti Virus.
I also have cache man. I'm running ME and HD space/ram etc is not a problem.

33355 2002-01-29 08:36:00 Hi dipstick, in my opinion it really all depends on what software you use. There is not really much point in keeping something if you don't use it. What I find to be a good idea is to not have everything installed, but still have the installer on drive. For example, I forget the last time I used WS-FTP but I still have the file so that I can install it when I need it.

33356 2002-01-29 08:49:00 Hi dipstick 01

If I was limited to just a few: Cashman yes. X-Setup. Bugtoaster (for me anyway). SiSoft (unless you have the full ver)

How about you I run 98 and was recently thinking along the same lines. A good uninstaller if you don't like playing with the registry (read not confident)

Cheers

33359 2002-01-29 09:25:00 I Agree with JM on this one - Keep the install programs handy and you can have anything back in a jiffy.

The other good reason for doing that is that sometimes you go back to the site that you carefully bookmarked, and the software is no longer available, no longer free, or the whole site is gone.

One thing you're always going to need to keep handy is WinZip.

33360 2002-01-29 09:49:00 One really useful utility I use a lot is AZZ Cardfile. Store all your interesting scraps of info in it. Pretty powerful program now. Shareware at US$12 but can use for free if you can stand all the reminders! (Had to add that, sorry!!!)

33361 2002-01-29 11:21:00 winzip, irfanview, opera6 and winamp. You have to be able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the internet with the easiest to use and most practical free programs avaliable. Guest (0)
33362 2002-01-30 05:35:00 Hi All, Thanks for that....Now I'll have to get my pen and paper out and go hunting...lol....there's some good reccomendations here and I will keep the setup files handy. I actually try to eep a copy in my Morpheus as well so others can get hold of them too. Just search the same nic and then search more from same user to find it...though I only allow 1 download at a time to save some bandwidth for myself. Thanks again. Guest (0)
