For a firewall I would NOT recommend ZoneAlarm, but would instead recommend either Tiny Personal Firewall (I believe you can get that from www.tinysoftware.co.uk) or the one I have just started using, which appears to be very good and includes an ad-blocker, Outpost, from www.agnitum.com let us know what you decide on! | 33374 | 2002-01-29 23:57:00 | if you can POSSIBLY get a working version of AtGuard there is no free firewall to beat it. 2nd best is definitly ZoneAlarm. Unfortunately InoculateIt is no longer available free - it was an admirable giveaway that was as good as Norton while it was free. |

| 33376 | 2002-02-06 10:27:00 | For free online anti-virus scanning try - 1. Norton anti-virus from security2.norton.com - I have tried this, it scanned every file but took hours on my DX4/100 with 24,000 files; no provision for scanning selected drives or directories. 2. Housecall from - housecall.antivirus.com - not tried; can select drives and directories. I recently read these in a mag article, together with mcafee.com/myapps/vsol and pandasoftware.com/activescan.com (? typo). Browser reports 'not found' for these 2. If anyone knows the mag source please reply via F1. |
