33501 2002-01-30 04:41:00 hi,
i have recently installed redhat 7.2, dual booting with win me. i am having no luck at configuring my printer.
its an epson stylus colour 580.there is no driver for this model, but seems to be for all other stylus colour printers
i have tried them all plus generic text only drivers but to no avail.
Has anyone out there had this problem, could it be specific to this printer?
also my system ( athlon 1.33, 640mb ram ) runs real slow under redhat.why is this?
can anyone recommend a good linux compatible modem?
thanx in advance.

33502 2002-01-30 05:35:00 These may help:

www.linuxprinting.org

www.epkowa.co.jp (wow offical support, sort of).

33503 2002-01-30 05:55:00 The easiest answer would be to use an older printer. The later Epsons seem to be a bit difficult to drive. Almost all the HPs are supported. Check out the Printing HOWTO, (so you can avoid those with functionality shown as 'paperweight') as well as that linuxprinting.org site. Guest (0)
33504 2002-01-30 08:31:00 Not sure why your PC should be slow - could recompile the kernel for your CPU but sounds like something else is wrong?

Any serial port modem will do fine - I use Dynalink V1456VQE which goes fine.

33505 2002-01-31 03:44:00 Linux should run very quickly on your machine.

Did you make a clear area on disk for RH to partition and format itself, or did you install it in the Windows partition -- using Microsoft format. That could slow it down. a Lot.
