I understand that when both of the icon screens are darkened, then though online, no data is being transfered,(Situation normal for me). Likewise when both icon screeens are steadidly lit, then data is being transfered at the max. But What does it mean when the back screen is lit steadidly and the front one blinks or is darkened? And again vice versa, ie the back screen is darkened and front one lit? Still trying to understand the poor connections I receive, but as previously pointed out, the distance of 35-40 Kms to our phone exchange is the biggest hurdle. Plus the fact that our electrict fences + neighbours may not be helping. Nevertheless it's interesting to delve into these matters. Answers conditional on acceptance of my spelling msitakes. |

The two lit screens show that data is being transferred, but each one specifies the direction. I believe the 'front' screen signifies that data is being sent from your computer, and the back one is data being received by your computer. When you download a file it is generally the back one (I may have got which one is which the wrong way round though...) that will be used the most as it is receiving the most data, but both screens will be lit due to your modem replying to the sending server to say that it got all the information correctly. Basically this means that even if one screen may be lit, you may be receiving or sending a lot of data without any data being sent in the opposite direction. |
