33629 2002-01-30 22:44:00 For those of you considering upgrading to XP, I discovered that any Norton product that isn't a '2002' release is now redundant. Having purchased SystemWorks 2000 only a year ago, I now have to fork out another $122.00 to 'upgrade' to a version compatible with XP. Are any alternatives worth considering?.
The XP compatibility seacrh engine is partly to blame- it only says when things are compatible, not that they aren't.

33631 2002-01-31 02:23:00 I get it!! Your motto goes something like this,

'If it ain't broke.... don't try to fix it...'

33632 2002-01-31 03:22:00 An alternative worth looking at seriously would (of course) be Linux. But you knew I was going to say that - didn't you ;-) Guest (0)
33633 2002-01-31 04:13:00 And if your computer is over a year old ...

Microsoft's motto seems to be: 'If it works, add fearures.'. That ensures that it won't work.

33634 2002-01-31 08:53:00 Yes, guessed you would, you're not a friend of Cyclops by any chance?

Caught my very first view of Linux in operation today, Red Hat using Gnome/KDE GUIs. It was a mature installation in a commercial environment but took 15 minutes for the resident IT expert to change the vertical and horizontal refresh rates temporarily and then to change them back, a task you can do in seconds on Bill's fine products. It looked for all the world like a throwback to UNIX or DOS complete with heaps of command line work.

Might put off being a late adopter for a while and become a a Linux Luddite instead!

Cheers
