33612 2002-01-30 20:07:00 I am trying to connect via telnet, but I am receiving the following message at the start.

Windoze cannot find PROGRAM.exe.

This program is needed for opening files of the type
'URL - Telnet protocol'.
A search of the HD finds nothing. Help is not helpful.

Telnet is installed on this computer.

Any thoughts?

33613 2002-01-30 20:40:00 What version of Windows are you using? I use the built in Telnet in Win ME and it goes fine, and there is no PROGRAM.EXE on my computer (I just did a search for it). Guest (0)
33614 2002-01-30 21:25:00 Hi Mike, am using version 5.1, but was not aware that ME had it built in.

Thanks - I will go look.

33615 2002-01-30 21:34:00 Mike, does win ME call it something else other than Telnet??

Looked but could not find, nor could I find any reference to it in 'Windows Set Up' and of course ME help was of no use! :-(

33616 2002-01-31 03:23:00 Track down a copy of 'putty'. Free, easy and even does SSH. Guest (0)
33617 2002-01-31 04:09:00 Telnet is called Telnet. It looks as if you clicked on an URL, and there is no 'PROGRAM' assigned to work on it. Try right-clicking on it, 'Open with', and enter telnet. That might work. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to make that the default ... it might spoil the action for other sorts of hosts. Guest (0)
33618 2002-01-31 06:53:00 No program.exe is a microsoft executable. You'll need to check their database for the reason it's not there.

I thought it was a virus at first because of the strange activity and I recalled someone asking about program.exe before in this forum.

33619 2002-02-02 03:22:00 If there is a programme called 'program.exe' I am sure it won't have anything to do with telnet ... that protocol is one of the oldest Internet standards. Guest (0)
