2002-01-30 20:07:00 | I am trying to connect via telnet, but I am receiving the following message at the start. Windoze cannot find PROGRAM.exe. This program is needed for opening files of the type 'URL - Telnet protocol'. A search of the HD finds nothing. Help is not helpful. Telnet is installed on this computer. Any thoughts?

2002-01-30 20:40:00 | What version of Windows are you using? I use the built in Telnet in Win ME and it goes fine, and there is no PROGRAM.EXE on my computer (I just did a search for it). | Guest (0) | |
2002-01-30 21:25:00 | Hi Mike, am using version 5.1, but was not aware that ME had it built in. Thanks - I will go look.

2002-01-30 21:34:00 | Mike, does win ME call it something else other than Telnet?? Looked but could not find, nor could I find any reference to it in 'Windows Set Up' and of course ME help was of no use! :-(

2002-01-31 04:09:00 | Telnet is called Telnet. It looks as if you clicked on an URL, and there is no 'PROGRAM' assigned to work on it. Try right-clicking on it, 'Open with', and enter telnet. That might work. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to make that the default ... it might spoil the action for other sorts of hosts. | Guest (0) | |
