33603 2002-01-30 20:13:00 First time I've ever been to that site (but my computer didn't explode, so that's okay).

Dorky story, more one of classic corporate legal stupidity and employee ignorance than a computer topic.

I saw a case in NZ where a person working at a company had a friend who sent so much email that their connection was online for 18,000 minutes a month and they were paying local call charges.

Like that sad arse who reckoned he didn't know uploads would cost on Napster or WinMX when using Jetstream. Moron should have paid the whole bill. Everyone with half a brain knows how it works.

If I plugged in every heater I own and ran them on full all day but left the windows open because it was hot, I wouldn't expect a credit from the power company when I got the bill.

Stupid is as stupid does.

33604 2002-01-30 20:26:00 Oh dear, how sad...

Robo, are you sure there's no clause in your contract that says you can't read the competitions magazines or go to their site? Next we could have YOU being fired :)

or even for letting that link stay on this board... perhaps it should be replaced with the bbc.co.uk link

33605 2002-01-30 21:00:00 Have a bit of compassion for the guy, nobody deserves to be bankrupted by an accident with the computer. He knew he was charged for uploading data, he just didn't realise he was doing it. Are you the real Robo, or an imposter? If you are the real one then you should be careful what you say here, as you may alienate a large number of your readers. Guest (0)
33606 2002-01-31 02:10:00 Well Robo

The prolific emailer was lucky to have a job! 18,000 minutes is 300 hours and considering that the average month has only 22 working days, that's over 13.5 hours emailing per day. Nice overtime if you can get it. Even if they 'worked?' a six day week it is still 26 11.5 hour days.

Methinks somebody has been exaggerating a little, or perhaps the story grew in the telling. I don't think even the most dedicated and die-hard Press F1 fan would be spending that much time online.

Cheers
