33722 2002-01-31 08:26:00 My Travan tape drive has started stalling my server. Time for it to go (4GB not enough anyway) One of my suppliers has reccommended a HP 12GB Dat drive for around $1500. Anyone got any advice/suggestions? Using NT4 server.
regards

Why not use a 20GB HDD in a removable caddy. You could buy several for the price of the tape drive and tapes, and since tape life is limited the longer term economics are better too.

Not to mention that an HDD will leave a tape drive in the dust for backup and restore speed.

33724 2002-01-31 13:26:00 Thanks BT
I have 2x 30gig Hdds for data & applications backup and you're right, they do leave tape for dead, but Nt backup will only point itself to a tape drive so if I want to backup my PDC I will have to do tape. I did post a few weeks ago for some suggestions re 3rd party software that will backup NT4 system/sam database/shares etc and got 1 reply from robo.
I was wondering if anyone out there has used dat with NT4 and could say whether it was worth it or not.
cheers
