2002-01-30 19:10:00 | How can the default 'home page URL' location be changed in Internet Explorer? It keeps going back to this, or worse yet, some stupid casino site will be put in my preferred home page location (which is YahooGroups). It would be nice to click on 'Default' and have it return to my choice of home page, instead of MSN!!!! I use IE 5.00 as the newer versions of IE are unstable. Netscape is also unstable, and please, no suggestions of using Opera. Thanks.

The URL for the page you have open appears in the address field. Click use current, click apply, and the site you have selected will be your default page. I have mine set to open on one of the news sites. As for Netscape, I am using v6.2.1, find it very stable, and in most instances the pages load faster than ie v6.0 Hope this helps. |

2002-01-30 20:37:00 | Its news to me that newer IE versions are unstable. I've used a number of IE versions (from IE3 through to IE6) and have found 5.5 and 6 to be the most stable. Have you tried IE6? I have never had any problems with it, while I had a few problems with 5.5, and many problems with IE4 and IE5.0 Also NS6.2 is very stable, although I prefer IE because it loads more pages correctly.

2002-01-30 21:06:00 | I was always more partial to IE simply because it starts in about half the time that Mozilla takes (Yes, I know half the source code is preloaded, but I don't care. Darned Anti-MS people). IE6 is as stable as a rock on Win2K SP2.

2002-01-30 22:52:00 | .....I should have mentioned that I tried << Tools|Internet options|General tab >> ages ago - it is basic and easy stuff. No matter what I do, I cannot get rid off the default page (which is: http://www.browser.net.au)- which I never chose and does not even exist now. I was hoping for an answer more along the lines of changing a root file (I did try altering the text in an INI file that had the default URL, but without success). I have a very clean system, always checking for spyware and viruses, and I use Zone Alarm. Thanks for the IE6 / NS6 advice. I did try NS6 when it first came out and it was unstable. Guess I will try the newer versions of IE and NS.
