33990 2002-02-02 05:38:00 Hi, I m just wondering is it possible to configure a dual boot with XP and 98 SE?? If so, do I just install XP into another directory?? Can XP run on FAT 32?? and will I have to setup my LAN agn for XP?? Can XP have a LAN with 98 SE?? thx .. Guest (0)
33991 2002-02-02 06:15:00 You will have to partition your drive with fdisk or Partition magic etc. into 2 partitions (or more if you wish)

Make the first partition 'C' Active, format it (fat32) and install W98se.

W98se must reside on the 1st partition as it relies on DOS to boot. Get W98se up and running properly. Put your XP disc in the CDRom and follow instructions. You must make sure you tick the box where it says 'Let me decide which partition to install to' naturally you will install to 'D' If 'D' is your 2nd partition.

Or you can make your CDRom bootable and install XP from there if you wish. (after W98se is up and running)

The installation will give you a choice of NTFS or a FAT32 file system. It's probably personal preference, some say some of XP's special features will not be available on FAT32. Some say XP on FAT32 is faster.
Do some research and decide which is best for your uses.

Remember though a Fat32 partition can read another Fat32 partition but cannot read a NTFS partition whereas a NTFS can read both.

You will need to reconfigure your Lan with XP but its dead easy. XP will let you create a network floppy to run on the other machines and install the necessary protocols etc.

Hope it helps.
