33849 2002-02-01 04:43:00 I've just been trying out AZZ Cardfile as recommended a couple of days ago by b d and have to say that it is a really neat little program.

No longer do I have to copy and paste into separate Notepad files (that get lost) all the interesting info from here that I want to keep and refer back to some day - now I can save everything onto 'cards' in one file.

Even if you aren't interested in saving info on *anything*, the sample files available for download from their website are worth their weight in gold, especially the Tips files.

This program is Highly Recommended in my opinion; thanks b d!

33850 2002-02-01 05:09:00 Ooops, forgot to add something:

Was thinking that Cardfile would be really useful for saving all the repetitive responses that we do on here, eg the standard replies to the scandisk, defrag, etc etc questions. The answers can all be in one place ready to copy and paste so there's no need to type them out every time.

33851 2002-02-03 10:51:00 Hi Susan.

Thanks for the AZZ Cardfile address. I hold you in high esteem and learn a lot from your various postings. But for you I would still have 128mb Ram instead of my current 256mb. (Remember your *Just do it* posting about installing ram?)

I have installed the shareware of AZZ Cardfile. My usage would be minimal, phone numbers, web addresses, Press F1 postings that interest me etc. I am retired and use the computer for personal use only.

Can you spare the time to answer a few questions?

1. I have never downloaded shareware before. How long have I got before I should either uninstall or pay, I couldn,t see any reference to that?

2. What are those names on the left side of the page for? They show phone numbers, is there any danger of making costly phone calls by clicking in error somewhere? (Could the list be deleted perhaps?)

3. I saw a reference to $12 somewhere, can I click on *Register* just to check for more information such as what currency, address, payment options etc, but retain the option to bail out before actually registering?

I did read the Read Me file, but as a 4 month net newbie (2 1/2 yrs computer), I am a bit wary of clicking Register buttons.

(I have just realised that there was more information on the original web page, that will be where I saw the reference to the $12. I will check it out further so don't answer questions that may be explained already in the web page)

Thanks.

33852 2002-02-04 04:34:00 Hi LL,

Thank you for the kind compliments (blush), I do try to be helpful!

1. As far as shareware is concerned, it is generally accepted that you can use it for as long as you need to find out whether it is useful to you or not. Usually a month is normal, or much shorter if you find that you use it all the time/everyday.

In reality a lot of people don't bother registering (and thus paying), especially for software that they only use very occasionally, but it depends on the individual's conscience. Registering and paying for shareware encourages the writers to do even more, which benefits us all.

2. I think you are referring to the card file that is loaded when CardFile starts. If so, then that is just a sample file for you to learn how it works.

You can delete all the 'cards' with the names and phone numbers on them if you wish, or alternatively make a new cardfile following the instructions on the Getting Started card, and once you have your own card/s you won't need the sample file again, except for reference. You can make as many Card Files as you wish, each containing as many Cards as you wish. A bit like lots of drawers with lots of files!

3. I had a look at the 'register' page (which is a different site to the CardFile site), and it has got quite a bit of information on it. If you 'order 1' copy of cardfile then submit that form you get another page with more info/help and a form to fill out so you can have a look without getting committed.

That $12 is US money, so it will be around $28 in NZ currency, at a guess. I have asked 'b d' if he/she has registered their copy and will let you know if I get a reply.

I wish I had known of this program a year ago, as I was researching a holiday in Bali and was saving heaps and heaps of useful info into a Word file, complete with Table of Contents. If I had had CardFile it would have made it much easier to keep track of all my notes.

I can see lots of uses similar to that, including saving all my computer notes. In fact the possiblities are endless! Did you download any of the Sample Files ( 2. omnitel.net/zdramys/azzcardfile/download.htm" target="_blank">www 2. omnitel.net)? The 'Tips' and 'PC Tech Tips' are good reading.

Hope this helps. Do remember to include your CardFiles in your backup routine - I save mine in My Documents so they don't get missed.

33853 2004-07-30 18:18:00 I bought this program a few days ago - just waiting for the mailman (snailmail) to deliver the codes I need to register. Noticed that in this thread Susan says that US$12 is equivalent to NZ$28 - that just goes to show how much the NZ dollar has appreciated against the greenback in the intervening time. Nowadays US$12 is only equivalent to less than NZ$20 !! Great stuff - except for the farmers. ;\

Anyway thank you very much Susan - it is a great program. :) :) :)

It took me less than a week to evaluate. Was going to compare with doing a table in word or a spreadsheet - but no contest at all !!

Next thing I will have to check what I need to backup. Hopefully even with my limited mental abilities I can work that out. ;)

33854 2004-08-01 04:51:00 Interesting to note, Misty, Susan B, et al, that Cardfile was a Windows programme included in Windows 3.11. Many little excellent programmes that Windows has included have, over the years, been dropped from successive system upgrades.

33856 2004-08-08 06:58:00 Thanks, Misty. Kind of you to notice. Did some postings just after Xmas regarding my new rebuild, must have gone in under a different name. Don't often get the chance or time to just browse. Should be in a little more often as I'm now working from home and need to factor in some recreation time.
Cheers,
Ken

Yes, Cardfile is based on the original Windows version and created when the latter was dropped. The author has added lots more features to his version though so it is much better.

33858 2004-08-08 09:24:00 Hi Susan
Yes, it is great - and I have now noted that the makers say to put the .AZZ data files into "My Documents" for easy backup, which is what I have now done.

Keeps it simple - which is really good because I have a tendency sometimes to complicate things.
Misty :) ;)
