| 34199 | 2002-02-03 21:27:00 | Reading the Feb issue of PC World I was tempted to defragment my hard disk, but this time by first removing the swap file temporarily as it suggested.(p94) So I rebooted with the Virtual memory disabled, and -nothing happened. And it should have. Some of the programs that run at startup couldn't run, because not enough memory. OK, thats fine, but what's worse is that There isn't enough memory to either defrag or open Control Panel*System to change the virtual memory setting back. Oh darn. I can reboot from a floppy and edit files on the HD, but which file and what should it be ??? HELP !! OS is Win98, HD is 4GB with about 600MB free, 64MB RAM, 266MHz cpu. |

| 34200 | 2002-02-03 22:25:00 | To restore your virtual memory settings, restart the computer and press F8 when the 'Starting Windows...' message appears. Select safe mode and press enter. This will start the computer using the bare minimum requirements. Right click on my computer and select properties, select 'allow windows to manage my virtual memory'.
