34089 2002-02-02 22:11:00 hi,
i am trying to install an rpm file in redhat 7.2 but i am very confused. if i use nautilus i can find the rpm file located in /usr/local/EPkowa but if i use this path to try to install the file using the command line it claims the file does not exist. i have also attemted to install using the grphical package manager but nothing seems to happen. if i can locate it with nautilus is it already installed?
very confused, mildly frustrated. or am i missing something? (or everything).
any ideas much appreciated.

34090 2002-02-03 02:17:00 RPM is not telling lies: it can't find the file you told ot to look for.

Perhaps you were missing something in your command line.

The 'filename' is just that -- there are no 'default extensions' in *nix, so the '.rpm' at the end of an RPM file is part of the name.
If you had 'cd'ed to the directory, you have to add './' (NOT followed with a space) in front of the name(because the 'current directory' not part of root's PATH -- for very good security reasons).

I don't know how the pacakage manager works -- it's too clever for me, and makes assumptions about everything.

The command line is reliable, and does what it's told. (not necessarily what is *wanted* ...).
