34067 2002-02-02 22:05:00 I was downloading a program from morpheus.com. It contained a virus called munga which deleted my 20gig hard drive of mp3s. But I still want to use morpheus so what is the best way to protect myself this time round. I now have norton. Would be greatful for any advice. Guest (0)
34068 2002-02-02 22:19:00 Morpheus is virus city. Have auto protect enabled on Norton and it will pick up alot of viruses automatically.
Also scan files with norton before opening and you should be pretty safe. remember to update virus definitions regularly.

34069 2002-02-02 23:30:00 Also beware of small files. When searching if the file is only a few kb instead of a similair size to the others then there is a good chance that its a virus. I've downloaded heaps from morpheus and had about 100 viruses so far. You definatly need to have antivirus and keep it up to date....dont just rely on the auto update but do a manual check as well. 34070 2002-02-03 01:19:00 You've got to look at the type of file you're downloading as well, as some things are more likely to contain viruses than others. I've downloaded 1000's of files through Morpheus, and only had one virus. Guest (0)
34071 2002-02-03 01:28:00 Hi

All the above advice is good... perhaps my best suggestion would be along the lines of what Dipstick said.... ensure you are downloading something that appears to be what you want. You can't fit too much music in 30kbs.

I would like to mention though that I have never downloaded any virus from Morpheus. I have downloaded 500 songs, various games along with a few mpeg's with no problems. I get it depends on the sort of media you are after. What are you downloading to get viruses? Dodgy games - pirated software?

34072 2002-02-03 05:59:00 This sounds like what happens when you load the files I asked about a while back.

They are titled:

madonna erik estrada naked gromit wallace trousers ole biscuit barrel shrubbery nut corflake corgi queen mother bestiality poppa smurf.mp3

and are all about 40 bytes long instead of 3mb.

I never did get a satisfactory answer on my question on that.

Clearly they aren't something you should download.
