It was the cheapest camera on the market I could find with a 2x Optical Zoom as well as a 2x Digital Zoom (for what they're worth) at only $550 including GST. I tried a few places to get the best deal, and did well in the end. I had a look at www.digitalcameras.co.nz. Good Luck. |

| 34412 | 2002-02-04 11:07:00 | One thing to note when purchasing a digital camera, is that a 2x zoom isnt actually a 2x zoom, it is very misleading. When they say 2x Zoom, what they ACTUALLY mean is that telephoto is 2x the zoom of the wide angle shot. But in most cases, the wide angle shot is in fact 0.5x magnification, so 2x will in fact only let you take photos at their original size. The only accurate way of determining exactly what zoom magnification you will be getting is to check the 35mm camera equivalent specs which are usually given along with the rest. A focal length of 35mm is 0.5x, 70 is 1x... etc, so a 35-70mm equivalent lense only offers 0.5 - 1x magnification of the subject. |
