| 34359 | 2002-02-05 01:55:00 | The computer came with pre-installed Norton AV software, W95 version. How does this version compare to newer versions, if the virus signatures are kept up to date? | Guest (0) | ||
| 34360 | 2002-02-05 02:57:00 | the later versions detect virus better. its the actual 'engine' that makes the difference. old antivirus products are not recommended. however the highest ver norton you can have with win95b is nortons 2001. 2002 dosn't support win95. before upgradeing check what your version has been upgraded to. eg ver 2000 has parts of it upgraded to 2001. |

| 34362 | 2002-03-03 09:25:00 | Thankyou for your comment. I was surprised to find that it was an older version of AV sofware that had been pre-installed, but then on the other hand, I should have expected that. Your answer confirms what I had also suspected, that more recent is better, and I have been trying out the NAV 2002 trial from the October '01 PC World Plus. Installing that meant uninstalling the previous (W95) version, so I didn't want to be hasty, and then have to buy an AV programme anyway at the end of the trial. In the meantime, I've decided to buy a shrinkwrap copy. Thankyou for your help. Credit also to Symantec for allowing download of the virus definition update in February, several months after the PC Plus came out. | Guest (0) | ||
