| 34447 | 2002-02-05 09:09:00 | I was reading the latest pcworld magazine, gaming section and as usuall it featured a story about the x-box 'Nintendos New Gamecube dosent use standerd DVD media or even standard screws to holed it together' To me this seems like a bit of a biased story by a pc magazine that shouldent try to hard to start reporting on the gaming industry and leave that to the gaming mags. To argue that a gaming console is superior beacuse of it has standard screws and a hard drive is silly. A game console should be judged on the quality of the game, graphics, and most important how fun the games are, which is what the gaming industry is really all about. I have a pc and it has a hard drive, there are many standard screws in my house, I am happy. I know this post hasent got anything to do with getting some pc help. I dont think the PC World Editors would print my letter. P.S i love PC world and think its great. I'm just trying to say that if your gona run a game news section try not to put other consoles down and remember what gaming is all about. |

We can be wrong, we don't like being wrong (who does?), but it happens. We don't stomp over any contrary views here or with letters sent to us. I agree, I have no idea why the non-standard screws are an issue. Any true geek would have the full set of screw heads anyway (how else do you pull apart Mcdonalds toys to see how they work?). As for other gaming platforms, I think they are worthy of our attention regularly. Personally, I don't think PCs are very good gaming platforms at all, and people should use a game console rather than risk reinstalling everything when some crappy games wrecks the registry. This is not a view held by all IDG staff, and I have had some pretty big discussions on this topic with Bruce Buckman. Sad thing is, to a certain extent he is right. We have tons of games at home that I can't get for PS2 (putt putt, pajama sam, SW:GB). Anyway Robert, thanks for your post, and feel free to email the editor some time. I don't remember hit shooting anyone for that so far. robo. |
